Wine Country Modern
Would you like to feel like you’re out in the countryside while being only minute’s walk from downtown? This project transformed an urban lot into an expansive space that feels like it’s out in the vineyards of Wine Country.

MODERN TO MEADOW
A feature of this property we wanted to keep was the orchard. Blending the orchard with evergreen native grass turf into a pollinator friendly planting swath. Juxtaposed with the clean modern lines of the pool decking it creates a stunning backdrop for swimmers and loungers a like.
CREATING GATHERING SPACES
Our goal is to bring the landscape down to human scale. Creating spaces to gather and are sized to the use of the space. This location is for small gatherings, a nice glass of wine at the end of the day.
EDIBLE LANDSCAPING
a productive landscape can also be a decorative one. One of our favorite design combinations is an orchard and a pollinator garden side by side. Here we used Achillea mollis ‘Terracotta’ , Teucrium fruticans, and Verbena bionaris. Giving bees, butterflies and hummingbirds a buffet of pollen and nectar. Allowing for the nearby fruit trees to be pollinated and in turn provide a bounty of food for our client.
VISURAL LAYERING
A key part of this design is the layering of the property. Creating a destination (The Dining Area and Pool) , a borrowed landscape (The hillside) and a future privacy screen (The Orchard) to make it all feel like there’s no one living around you for miles.
