Carbon Footprints Calculated From the Ground Up!

Most of us have come to understand the term “carbon footprint” to describe the amount of climate changing carbon emitted as a result of fossil fuels. The bigger your carbon footprint, the more impact you have on the climate. Many of the clients I work with mention how they would like their landscape design to be climate conscious – usually starting with removing a lawn!

What’s new is thinking of the landscape surrounding our homes as a carbon producer. A Landscape Designer right here in Sonoma County has developed a software application, the Carbon Calculator, that enables us to calculate and manage the carbon impact on landscape projects.

Using the Carbon Calculator, we can calculate the carbon footprint of your project. It will allow us to estimate the carbon footprint and time to carbon neutral for landscape projects based on site design and management. It may be used for projects in the design phase or already completed projects.

After we take you through the design process, we can calculate the carbon footprint of your project down to the individual drip emitter! We can then calculate the carbon sequestration capabilities of your plantings and tell you how long before your landscape becomes a net carbon sink and you become part of the global climate solution.

We will be offering this as a “value added” to our designs.
